I bought this in February, 2018 and have used it less than 10 times. I was cooking chicken breasts on the wire racks last night and it turned off in the middle. I finished the chicken in my regular oven and let the airfryer cool down. It still wouldn't turn back on after cooling down. No lights/power or anything. I called Tristar's customer service this morning and was told that it's guaranteed for only 60 days. I wish I would have seen these reviews before I wasted my money.
I followed the Leah Chase's Oven-Fried Chicken recipe to test the second batch of chicken. After dredging, I brushed each piece of chicken with a light coat of olive oil in order to soak up the flour and prevent it from caking up and not “frying” correctly. I set the airfryer to 410°F for 30 minutes and preheat the oven at 425°F. However, 10 minutes into baking, the oven started to smoke really bad, so I turned the temperature down to 400°F. (I suspect the excess flour on the pan was burning.) Halfway through cooking, I flipped the chicken in both the oven and air fryer and noticed the bottom breading stuck to the basket in the air fryer, so I would definitely recommend spraying the basket with cooking spray. Naturally, the oven batch took 15 minutes longer (45 minutes total) to cook since I turned the temperature down. The air fryer chicken again cooked quicker, was crisper, and did not smoke up the kitchen. In fact, the air fryer batch was delightfully crispy and the breading was fully cooked through—no soggy bits to be seen. The drawback, again, was that it could only hold a few pieces of chicken. That said, though the oven batch may not have been quite a crisp in the breading, I will say, the flesh was much juicer.
T-fal may not be as well-known as the likes of Philips or Black and Decker, but the ActiFry has a lot to offer -- namely the fact that it solves the issue of flipping over your food with a built-in paddle that slowly rotates the food while it cooks. That can be pretty hand -- it means you can set your air fryer and then forget about the food until it’s literally ready to eat.
With every year that passes, more and more doctors are urging people to consume less fat in their diets, what with the alarming growth of food-related illnesses that were not seen decades before. Many people find it difficult to change their eating habits and even refuse to do it because it would mean giving up their favorite dishes. However, technology has made it possible so that you can stay healthy while cooking all your favorite “fatty foods” without the guilt!
The intuitive design almost hits a home run but falls short on the timer implementation. Once the timer expires, there is no auto shutoff with only a buzzer sounding. It means the unit will continue cooking your food until you manually turn it off. Whist this job is made easier due to the steam free viewing window, it’s still a relative annoyance that you need to be around when the cooking is nearing completion.
Obviously, this makes it a cleaner and healthier cooking alternative, compared to deep frying or other traditional cooking methods. This is especially beneficial if you are on a low-fat diet. Does the air fried food taste the same as deep fried? If you ask me, I’d have to say no. But the food still tastes great and you may use 80 percent less oil using air fryer vs other cooking methods.
There are several indications on top of the model that point out the recommended time and temperature settings for common food items like chips, chicken, steak and fish. There is also a warmup light which is something we have not seen in other models. The idea is that once the warmup is complete, the button will light up meaning you should the put the food in, thus ensuring that a stable temperature is applied at all times.
- Frozen Foods - From my experience this is one area where it really shines. Instead of limp or soggy reheated frozen foods from the microwave, the Air Fryer can reheat just about anything I've thrown at it from frozen fish fillets to onion rings or corn dogs, and everything is crispy or crunchy as if fried in oil, but it's not, which makes it so much healthier.
There’s no denying it—the air fryer is awesome. It gives you crispy, salty French fries in a matter of minutes with half the fat and calories you’d expect in a traditional restaurant order or McDonald’s run. And, there’s no comprising on the taste. In fact, you can even add in your own herbs and spices and use out-of-the-box ingredients to shake things up.
CR’s take: The As Seen on TV Power AirFryer XL has a 5.3-quart capacity—one of the largest in our ratings—and is easiest to clean, in part because of the basket’s nonstick coating; it rates Excellent in our cleaning tests. The digital controls and preprogrammed settings are a snap to read and use. This model is on the noisy side, about as loud as a typical countertop microwave. That’s not a big drawback if you’re cooking something that takes just a few minutes. But the sound might prove annoying for longer tasks. The Power XL’s warranty is the shortest of the bunch—just 60 days.
Would not recommend this product. The basket is VERY hard to get in and out. Purchased one and returned it for that reason and got a new one, this one worked for a bit but started having the same problem. Then the outside part of the basket broke off, making it impossible for the unit to turn on without holding the basket in place. Have had for 9 months and the company will not replace the basket outside part and told me I would need to buy another one instead. Very very disappointing.
And I can confidently conclude the Airfryer was MADE to fry frozen french fries. These perfect spears of starchy comfort came out crispy, steaming hot, and with good variation between softer and slightly burnt pieces. With just a dash of salt, I swear I could package these in stamped brown bags and sell 'em in my hipster neighborhood for $5 a pop. (BTW, these are the frozen fries I used — nothing special.)
Bought oven in June of this year, used about 4-5 times. Cooking French Fries on the french fry timer and the inside glass on the door shattered. Contacted Seller only to be treated like I did something wrong. Sent me a postage paid return label and I had to box up and take it to Fed Ex to return. Now they want me to sign a Release Form that basically relinquishes them for any wrong doings for the old oven as well as the new oven before they will send me a new oven that I already paid for. Totally Ridiculous! One step away from calling Better Business Bureau.
While all three specimens were reminiscent of special treats mom would make for my sister and me when we were kids and she didn't want to cook, they were in no way as good as real French fries. If a perfect paper cone full of Belgian fries eaten on a Brussels sidewalk is a 10 and excellent fries at your favorite bar are a seven, then the oven fries were a two, the convection oven version was a two point five and the air fryer a three. With a bit of tweaking, like preheating the sheet pan for the oven version, I guessed I could bring each of those home-cooked numbers up a point, but none of the fries I'd made were terribly compelling.
When it comes to the “latest and greatest” kitchen gadgets, I’ll be the first to admit I have some baggage. A few years ago, my brother nearly ruined Christmas dinner by using an “As Seen On TV” infrared oven (a gimmicky predecessor to the air fryer) to “re-fry” my mom’s Vietnamese imperial rolls. Not only did it take forever, but the rice paper wrappers emerged from the “miracle machine” with an extremely unappetizing plastic-like texture. It was a grim meal that my mother has never let him forget.
This recipe was absolutely delicious!! I just got my air fryer for Christmas and this is one of the first things I have tried. Not only was it easy but a recipe I am sure I will go back to many times. I served it to my husband and son and they both loved it. I had no left overs so now I need to find another Skinny taste recipe for dinner tonight.
The NuWave Brio Digital Air Fryer 6 Quart is on the large size and has a big capacity. In our tests it cooked more unevenly and gave less browning and crisping than others. Thanks to digital controls that are easy to read and program, we did find it particularly convenient to use. It has a built-in preheat setting and preprogrammed settings for things like fries and nuggets that you’re likely to cook. A divider for the basket is included so that you can air fry two foods at once and keep them from mingling. In the manual, there’s a slew of recipes to help you get good use out of your air fryer. While the parts are dishwasher safe, top rack only is recommended and the basket may be too large for the upper shelf.
So I got mine just before christmas. Came earlier than expected. No scratches, no damage. Tried chicken first filled 3 racks and it was great. Next try was frozen nuggets and fresh fries nuggets were great. Fries ( havent figured them out tried all kinds of ways, just end terrible ) made jerky used all 5 trays almost 5lbs worked great. I am not impressed with the recipe books still searching for more recipes. Gonna try burgers today. Also drip pan began to flake away and I called customer service and they shipped me a new one No charge. But I've not given up yet have to learn how to use still times are funny. No setting and forgetting on this one. But overall it does make the best chicken as long as you have a meat thermometer.
Traditional meat-filled empanadas can be a double-whammy of fat and calories due to ground beef and a trip to the deep fryer. This air fryer twist on the traditional handheld snack is even healthier thanks to the addition of mushrooms, which lighten the filling while keeping it nice and moist. Packs these air fryer empanadas for a tailgate, or serve them over greens for a hearty supper.
Like most everyone, I care about what I put into my body, and I know enough about nutrition science to understand that french fries should not be a diet staple. But even with my health in mind, I subscribe to the Chrissy Teigen philosophy of eating—if I’m going to be counting calories or limiting entire food groups, I’m going to make sure every single thing I eat is as delicious as possible.
The very latest version HD9641/96 is 50% smaller than the original Philips XL Airfryer HD9240/94 model, and offers 1.8lb cooking capacity (1 bag of French fries). It is light, compact, and cooks more quickly, which should serve you perfectly whether cooking for a single person or a small family up to 4 people. The unit is equipped with the new quick control dial and a function to keep your food warm for up to 30 minutes after cooking.
I bought my Power Air Fryer Oven the end of September. I didn't use it right away, but when I finally did, it worked fair. I figured I needed to get used to using it. Yesterday I decided to dehydrate some fruit. I put it in the oven, pushed the dehydrate setting - 8 hours later you couldn't even tell it had been in the dehydrate. I removed the fruit and decided to make some fries. I shut off the machine and turned it back on using the french fry setting. No blower, turned it off and unplugged it for a few minutes. I tried again and again, no blower. I would guess I haven't even used it ten times.
Most air fryers come with accessories that are sold separately, such as a cake pan or grill pan, but we found them to be gimmicky add-ons that didn’t prove useful. Most manufacturers, such as Philips, sell several accessories separately. However, we can’t justify spending $20 to $40 on additional pieces when each air fryer model is already exorbitantly priced.
Detachable Basket: Always check that your Air Fryer has a detachable basket. A detachable basket allows you to safely remove the cooking basket after the cooking is done for cleaning purpose and so that you can easily transfer the food from the basket to the serving dish.If your basket is not detachable then it will be hard for you to clean the basket and also while food serving.
Someone told me an excellent suggestion - use Reynolds PARCHMENT PAPER directly under the food to be cooked. If not at your grocer, you can get it on Amazon. No mess to be cleaned up in the fryer; just toss the parchment paper. After cutting off the necessary size of the Reynolds parchment paper, perforate it by poking about a dozen slits/holes with tip of a sharp knife to cook the food evenly. Or you can get 200 9" diameter circular perforated parchment papers for a reasonable price also on Amazon. Philips - take note.
Cooking aficionados, behold! The Philips XL Airfryer is the perfect kitchen companion for anybody who likes cooking up a storm for their family and friends. This Gordon Ramsay approved air fryer has a large capacity basket that holds up to 2.65 lbs. of food, a perfect if you have a family of 4. Not only is it capable of frying food, but also grilling, roasting, steaming, and baking. Here are some of the features:
This unit is probably the best on the market for the price. I have been using mine for over a year with great results. I am so happy that I bought 2 more for gifts for my daughters and they love the results. I read a lot of negative comments from others on how the basket goes in when warm and all I can say to them is use common sense and hold the basket up as you slide it in and it slides right into place. I recommend this product to friends all the time.
I really liked the way the airfryer worked and performed but after only three times the fan quit it cost me 40 bucks to return it !!!! also if I would have got it replaced , the NEW unit WOULD NOT HAVE CAME WITH ANOTHER 60 DAY WARRANTY !!! SO WHAT'S THAT SAY ABOUT THEIR FAITH IN THEIR PRODUCT !!! ALSO THEY WOULD NOT REIMBURSE MY SHIPPING FEE !!! Like I said, I loved how it performed !!! BUT UNTIL THEY ADMIT AND ADDRESS THE FAN PROBLEM I WILL NEVER BUY ANOTHER ONE OF THEIR PRODUCTS !!! DO NOT BUY THIS PRODUCT !!!!!
