I ordered my Power Air Fryer oven less than one month ago. I used it for the very first time and it shut off with my chicken half cooked. Ughh! That was very disappointing because I had to switch to the conventional oven to continue. It's disappointing that the unit simply stopped working the FIRST TIME, and that I am not the only one experiencing that problem. I'm currently packing the unit to send it back for a replacement. They said for my troubles, I would get a $50 card, but it seems you have to sign-up for a program to get it. That is not free, so I ditched that option. My experience with the unit and the process has not be great so far. So I would not recommend this product to anyone yet. I'll see how quick they address the problem. Luckily, I paid for the six-year full protection plan, seems I may really need it.

I had almost written off fried chickpeas as something that will never actually be good—that is, until I cooked them in the air fryer. The absence of the oil needed in the oven, deep-fat fryer, or skillet actually helps them get crispier because the air fryer’s heat dries out the exterior, while what little oil gets used has a chance to imbue the beans with a beautiful golden brown color. All crunch + no mess = I’m sold.
The timer is a sore point as it only goes up to 30 minutes and it must be noted that if you pull your food out during cooking, it will continue ticking on. It’s a bit annoying at first but easily fixed if you pre-emptively set the time with this action already planned for. This is another common issue prevalent in all analog air fryers and is resolved if you opt for the digital model.
I'm Ashley Clarke Thompson. And I'm Ry Crist. And we're here at the CNET applicanes office to talk about what has been on our mind and in our stomachs for the past two weeks. Which is air fryers. Yeah, so air fryers, the thing you have to understand about these things, is that they aren't really frying anything. It's just blowing hot air over your food in this kind of small, contained space and that makes them sort of a small, counter top, convection oven And nothing that you cook in them is gonna be much different than what you get out of a convection oven. It's just kind of a different way of doing it. And you know, it has good marketing. It's all about, like you can fry up foods healthier, you know? But at the end of the day, we really weren't Too impressed with most of these. Yeah, I mean, it's the same difference between frying and air frying as frying and baking. If I just put a bunch of frozen french fries out on a baking sheet and baked them, I'm not using oil, I'm not deep frying them in their own juices or anything. It's just going to be what we get out of an air fryer. Which is just this, golden brown, kind of crispy, kind of dry. Frozen fries. And these are perfectly reheated, these are snackable. I enjoy these fries, it's fine. But a lot of these new fryers cost $200, $300 and that just feel absolutely ridiculous. I wouldn't spend more than a $100 for a Unitasker like this that's just heating up frozen stuff. You know, I honestly couldn't especially for the more expensive fryers that we tested. I mean, some of them the MSRP is $300. Which for me was a lot of money for something that essentially does one thing really well. I mean, as somebody who tests small appliances, I think you would be better off with a toaster oven. It can do the same thing, especially if it has convection in the toaster oven, and it can toast, which these cannot. Yeah, thank you for talking while I was chewing by the way. Now it's my turn. Your turn, yeah. The one that we have here, the Simple Chef, is just 70 bucks. So it's the cheapest we tested. Did a fine job with fries, did the cheese sticks and pizza rolls and frozen snack tests pretty well Didn't do great with fresh fries, and burgers, and chicken wings. It was okay. But again, nothing better than you'd get out of your oven. So if you understand that you're not getting a special cooking appliance that's gonna unlock some new recipes and really just Convenient oven for your counter top, I think this one is fine. But I wouldn't spend much more than that. Yeah, I agree. I mean, if you have just some spare money and a love of pizza rolls and mozarella sticks then sure, 70 bucks, not too bad.

We purchased our air fryer oven from Bed, Bath, and Beyond, utilizing the 20% odd coupon. The first recipe called for chicken pieces, to be coated with herbs and corn starch. There was corn starch everywhere. What a mess. The second attempt was cooking a 2 1 / 2 lb. Pork loin on the rotisserie. The book said it would handle up to 3 lbs. I ended up cutting the loin in half. My main problem is that after I shut it off, the was a loud bang. Our corian counter top split. There is so much heat generated they need to issue a warning. We'll be calling the company in the morning and returning the unit.

Chicken in the air fryer, breaded or not is so juicy, tender and delicious. Even ribeye steaks are awesome in the air fryer and I can’t even believe I was willing to try that. Anyway, you get it, it’s worth every penny.
Hi Helen–I would try oiling the basket of the fryer but brush it with regular oil and don’t use Pam. I didn’t have to do this with this chicken, but a good method for getting breading to stick to whatever you’re cooking is to make sure that the flour is almost like paste–which should happen here because of the buttermilk soak, but if you refrigerate the breaded pieces for about an hour, the breading will adhere. This is messy, I won’t lie, but it does work. Only other thing I can think of is you may have crowded the basket. Many people swear by the parchment rounds they sell to line the fryer basket. I bought them off Amazon but to be honest, I find them more trouble than they’re worth, but your mileage may vary.
If you want to cook for a family, then buy an appliance, which has higher capacity. On the contrary, if you live alone, then the compact device will be okay for you. A healthy body is an extremely important condition for a long life! We can 100% say that eating junk food is an addiction many people just can quit. You can never get enough of it. However, after buying your first air fryer, you will enjoy the cooking process, and your body will feel light in few days. Say “no” to excessive oil and bring home this extremely useful domestic device!
This Secura 1500 is a reasonably priced and very useful kitchen gadget. It can be used for frying, for reheating food as well as for grilling. It is easy to use and clean and features a large sized basket which can fit some snacks or a meal for 3-4 people. The temperature ranges are 180-400, and there are so many recipes available for preparing with this wonderful appliance.
First, we prepared a batch of frozen french fries and timed how long they took to cook. We evaluated each batch to see whether the fries turned evenly golden brown and crispy or whether any pieces ended up under- or overcooked. After our initial round of testing, we prepared hand-cut fries in the finalists. We also cooked pork chops in each of the fryers to test how well they browned raw meat. And we “air-fried” frozen breaded chicken tenders and fish sticks.
Piece of trash. I was so excited to buy this oven, thinking it would be healthier, convenient & faster way to feed our family. The oven on tv isn’t the same version, so we upgraded. Food looked so delicious on tv wrong wrong! I used the rotisserie for a whole chicken but can only have a chicken weighing 4 lbs. To return it you must insure & sent usps or ups $105 later we sent it back. What a rip-off.

When you pile finger foods into the shallow basket of an air fryer, the food doesn’t have ample space to cook evenly. Most manufacturers recommend tossing certain foods once during the cooking process, halfway through. Realistically, to get the best results, you need to toss the food in the basket several times, which isn’t very practical. These small appliances also aren’t helpful for large families—if you need to cook more than two servings of anything, you can forget about having dinner on the table in a reasonable amount of time.
I ordered the elite model and the two round bonus pans, which came under a separate order. When I got the air fryer, I read the manual which states you CANNOT reheat liquids in it. I called the customer number and they said it is primarily an air fryer and not meant for microwaving. I argued that was deceptive advertising and if it could not replace my microwave, I wanted to send it back. They offered to reduce the price by $40 if I kept it, which I refused because it was not as advertised.
I have read so many reviews on the air fryer and thought I would give it a try. Since bringing it home, I have made fries (awesome turnout) and chicken (jerk...see pic). I also tried chicken with just seasoning (no breading) and they came out perfect. But I have one con to this contraption.....its too small. In order to make a meal for my family, I had to first cook the chicken, THEN cook the fries. I wish it had the divider like the Power Air Fryer XL. I love this thing and it's so easy for my kids. They can just throw in the food, set it and forget it. This is not great if trying to cook more than one food item, but its great for a single person or if making a quick batch of fries. I gave it 4 stars for the size, but everything else is great. I use it every day. It was a great purchase.
Would not recommend this product. The basket is VERY hard to get in and out. Purchased one and returned it for that reason and got a new one, this one worked for a bit but started having the same problem. Then the outside part of the basket broke off, making it impossible for the unit to turn on without holding the basket in place. Have had for 9 months and the company will not replace the basket outside part and told me I would need to buy another one instead. Very very disappointing.
One other drawback is the Brio is pretty loud. There were a couple others that were louder, but this one was noticeably noisy. It is not something you would think of right away when preparing to purchase an air fryer, especially since deep-fat fryers are loud too, but it is somewhat annoying to have to talk over the Brio. If you prefer an air fryer that generates less noise, consider the Power Fryer XL.
We bought the Power Air Fryer oven which is not in the reviews. It came with a rotisserie, basket, 3 racks, drip tray & recipe books. It was not only to fry, but bake & serve as a dehydrater. It was digital, easy to program & had preset controls for certain foods. You could also adjust the the and temp manually. The timer also could be set for many hours not just 30 minutes. The chicken wings, tenders and French fries came out great although the cook time was longer than the preset times. I tried a steak, would not recommend as it was just warmed. Also tried drying fruit, set on the preset (10 hours) and it still was not done after adding 2 more hours. I was so excited to use this oven even though it was very pricey. However, it just didn’t perform for the price which was $160. I an pay a lot less to do wings & fries! Sent it back.
- Whole Chicken (6lbs) - I just cooked this last night, and OMH!!! I rinsed the whole chicken and patted dry and then rubbed with a tiny bit of oil and seasoned with Johnny's Seasoning Salt (Google it, you'll be glad you did!) and black pepper. Then place in AirFryer basket breast-side down and cook at 370 for 35 minutes. Then I flipped it over to breast-side up and cooked an additional 30 minutes. When I saw the skin was to my desired crispiness, I covered it with foil and cooked it for another 10 minutes, and then removed the foil and cooked another 5 minutes more. The result was the tastiest and juicy chicken! My kids actually wanted to eat the skin. Note: If the liquid comes up above the fry basket holes, then carefully dump out some of the juice and continue cooking. Also, you'll want to use the silicone trivets under the fry basket to keep it from making contact with the bottom basket.

Air fryers use circulating hot air to cook food that would otherwise be submerged in oil. The air fryer's cooking chamber radiates heat from a heating element near the food, thus cooking it more efficiently. A fan is generally used to circulate hot air around the food. The opening at the top is used to take air in and there is an exhaust at the back that controls the temperature by releasing any undesired hot air. It is also used to counter any increases in internal pressure. The temperatures inside can go up to 200 °C/400 °F depending on the model. For safety, it is essential to not put oil inside the air fryer or have flammable objects near the air fryer. In general, cooking times in the air fryer are reduced by 20% in comparison with traditional ovens. This varies per brand and the quantity of the food cooked in the air fryer.
We put this to the test with chicken pieces, chips and fish, all of which came out crispy and equally browned on all sides. Of course, as recommended by most recipes, we also flipped the food items midway through cooking. Don’t expect the same results if you don’t do this. Overall, it was clear all sides of the food were exposed to the hot air circulating around.
I followed the Leah Chase's Oven-Fried Chicken recipe to test the second batch of chicken. After dredging, I brushed each piece of chicken with a light coat of olive oil in order to soak up the flour and prevent it from caking up and not “frying” correctly. I set the airfryer to 410°F for 30 minutes and preheat the oven at 425°F. However, 10 minutes into baking, the oven started to smoke really bad, so I turned the temperature down to 400°F. (I suspect the excess flour on the pan was burning.) Halfway through cooking, I flipped the chicken in both the oven and air fryer and noticed the bottom breading stuck to the basket in the air fryer, so I would definitely recommend spraying the basket with cooking spray. Naturally, the oven batch took 15 minutes longer (45 minutes total) to cook since I turned the temperature down. The air fryer chicken again cooked quicker, was crisper, and did not smoke up the kitchen. In fact, the air fryer batch was delightfully crispy and the breading was fully cooked through—no soggy bits to be seen. The drawback, again, was that it could only hold a few pieces of chicken. That said, though the oven batch may not have been quite a crisp in the breading, I will say, the flesh was much juicer.

We’re sad to say that after more than 35 hours researching and testing air fryers, we don’t recommend them for most people. The air fryers we tried didn’t cook food better than a regular convection oven or convection toaster oven. Though we were genuinely excited to test air fryers, we think they’re far too expensive for what they give you. However, if you’re determined to get an air fryer, the Philips HD9641/96 Airfryer was the best of the models we tested—but we still don’t recommend it.
While all three specimens were reminiscent of special treats mom would make for my sister and me when we were kids and she didn't want to cook, they were in no way as good as real French fries. If a perfect paper cone full of Belgian fries eaten on a Brussels sidewalk is a 10 and excellent fries at your favorite bar are a seven, then the oven fries were a two, the convection oven version was a two point five and the air fryer a three. With a bit of tweaking, like preheating the sheet pan for the oven version, I guessed I could bring each of those home-cooked numbers up a point, but none of the fries I'd made were terribly compelling.
