There’s no denying it—the air fryer is awesome. It gives you crispy, salty French fries in a matter of minutes with half the fat and calories you’d expect in a traditional restaurant order or McDonald’s run. And, there’s no comprising on the taste. In fact, you can even add in your own herbs and spices and use out-of-the-box ingredients to shake things up.
If you’ve been fighting the temptation of fried chicken for the sake of your healthy diet, you can finally indulge guilt free. This spicy, crispy chicken emerges from the air fryer with all the flavor and crunch you’ve been craving. For the best flavor, be sure to let the chicken marinate as instructed—if you have the time, go the full 12 hours. The results are worth it.
Air fryers use circulating hot air to cook food that would otherwise be submerged in oil. The air fryer's cooking chamber radiates heat from a heating element near the food, thus cooking it more efficiently. A fan is generally used to circulate hot air around the food. The opening at the top is used to take air in and there is an exhaust at the back that controls the temperature by releasing any undesired hot air.[3] It is also used to counter any increases in internal pressure. The temperatures inside can go up to 200 °C/400 °F depending on the model.[citation needed] For safety, it is essential to not put oil inside the air fryer or have flammable objects near the air fryer. In general, cooking times in the air fryer are reduced by 20% in comparison with traditional ovens.[5] This varies per brand and the quantity of the food cooked in the air fryer.

One year ago I shared my Grapefruit Cranberry Martini with you, have you made it yet? Five years ago this quick dinner of Loaded Sausage and Gravy Baked Potatoes came into my life and is still a quick dinner for us. Seven years ago I learned to make Chicago-Style Hot Dogs at home and shared them with you. Eight years ago these Cornmeal-Blueberry Scones made me feel like spring in the middle of winter. And nine years ago this Asparagus Popover won me over.

But after a few trusted colleagues raved about air fryers, I decided to reconsider. At my local home goods store, I eyed the futuristic, egg-shaped appliance with skepticism. Air fryers are basically compact convection ovens that rapidly blow lots of hot air onto food to cook it. I was intrigued but hesitant to commit due to its small capacity. I went home empty handed; I needed a little more convincing.
If you’re truly looking for a healthy alternative to frying, why not try a convection toaster oven? They employ the same exact technology, but have the added bonus of being something you already use all the time for a million other foods that aren’t frozen fries or chicken fingers. They’re leaner, cleaner, and endlessly more useful than their mysterious fryer cousins. Oh, and most models are the same price if not cheaper. If you step up to investing in an entire convection oven, your capacity issues disappear completely, and you can fake-fry, bake, and broil to your heart’s content.
Traditional frying methods induce the Maillard effect by completely submerging foods in hot oil. The air fryer works by coating the desired food in a thin layer of oil while circulating air heated up to 200 °C (392 °F) to apply heat and initiate the reaction.[2] By doing this, the appliance is able to fry foods like potato chips, chicken, fish, steak, cheeseburgers, french fries or pastries using 70% to 80% less oil than a traditional deep-fryer.[3]
Will it be frozen fries, chicken wings, chips, and other simple dishes, or more complex recipes that require different heating options, like grilling, steaming, and baking? Air fryers like the Philips XL AirFry are perfect for people who will need an appliance with different modes so they can make a large variety of meals. The downside to it is the steep learning curve you have to go through in order to understand the machine fully, but once you do, you’ll be making mouth-watering cuisine in no time.
Ideal cooking temperatures are hard to maintain. The secret to successful deep frying is maintaining a proper oil temperature. When cooking oil falls below a certain temperature, the food's internal moisture does not repel the oil as well, resulting in greasy, undercooked food. Simply putting a bag of frozen food into a hot deep fryer will affect the oil temperature, and the heating elements of many deep fryers take a long time to recover from the shock. This is not a concern with superheated cooking methods such as convection or air frying.
This is so handy! Easy way to eat healthy without heating up a giant oven. I cut up a head of cauliflower and used a T of butter/or margarine with garlic powder/ onion powder and smoked paprika stir caul around in that, then sprinkle with italian bread crumbs and air fry. Put it in the preheated air fryer for 10-12 minutes, at 350, it was excellent. I cooked some saucy things in there, and the sauce drips to the bottom, but does not smoke and burn. VERY easy clean up. Made some homemade bean burgers, came out great in there. Also done a tone of fries, they come out great and I piled it full. Not heating up the whole oven for these items will be great in the summer when the air conditioning is on.
Furthermore you don’t get many accessories with this model and the grated basket is the toll you have to hold the food.  Whilst perfect for chips and most solid foods, foods that use marination or are more liquid will seep through the bass.  An easy fix is to use an paper plate or something that is solid to retain the liquid.  If you plan to bake or cook liquids or semi liquid ingredients, it is recommended that you buy the baking pan which comes as a one of the many available accessories.
As is with MOST As Seen On TV junk, this item is exactly that. I am taking a pretty good guess that 50% of their units are junk even before they leave their factory. Kind of like fall-apart Kmart junk. After unit internal parts fail even before the warranty expires, you have to pack it and return it at YOUR cost. There are absolutely NO phone numbers to call for ANY assistance for purchasing even the light bulb for it, which a majority of the machine needs to be taken apart just to get to it. Parts rust within a few weeks even when hand washed. SquareTrade's extended warranty backed by Allstate Ins. Co. is also just as worthless!
This Philips HD9630/98 Avance XXL air fryer is the big kahuna of air fryers. Still following the same principles of using very little oil to make fried food creations, this model has a 3-pound capacity, meaning it can handle more food than your average air fryer. That means when the kids bring over friends, you won't have to make several batches of fries. Instead, simply whip up one batch and join everyone on the couch for movie night. As an added plus, this model is also an Amazon's Choice product — a title given to only the best Amazon products.
The Air Fryer works with rapid air technology system. A combination of high-speed hot air circulation and a top grill, the hot air gets circulated around the ingredients in the basket. All sides of the basket get heated and cook the food very fast and properly. At last, by using rapid air technology, the food becomes crunchier from outside, without being dry from inside. Thus, gives a crispy taste by maintaining the ingredients balance. Check Air Fryer Review.

Power Air Fryer Oven is an oven that superheats the air inside using Rapid Air Technology, thereby enabling it to cook your food with practically no oil at all. Without the need to add any extra calories or fat to your food, you can still get the same taste, yet with a much healthier output. Enjoying your favorite snacks such as onion rings, French fries, and much more, can all be produced in more healthily.

We had the other one and it worked great, gave it to me daughter after we got this one. Wish we had it back : this is good tor wings and fries but you try and use the skewers they are to short to reach on both sides, as far as the rotisserie part you have to use baby capons, not a chicken. ( joke ). Friends got the Nuwave air oven and its twice the unit ours is. Guess I ll just give this to someone else and get one of them. To bad I m out all that money! So don't waste your money.

What an air fryer actually is is a small, super-powerful convection oven. Once I learned the way it operated, I took the plunge and bought one. And you’d be amazed at all the things you can prepare in this. Generally speaking, if you can cook it in your oven, you can cook it in an air fryer. Just remember that space is pretty limited so you can’t do sheet cakes or turkeys or stuff such as that.
It promises to produce crispy, crunchy foods like french fries and breaded chicken with just a drizzle of oil and in a fraction of the time of baking. For its health benefits, it’s been endorsed by the hard-to-please Gordon Ramsay, and the kinder (but no less discerning) Oprah Winfrey. Many consumers are obsessed, but no less puzzled—how can science produce straight-out-of-the-fryer taste from thin air?
Wished we would have read the reviews before purchasing. When in use it has this burning plastic/rubbery smells up the area and comes out on the food. Its gotten to the point where our kid refuses to eat anything cooked in it. I thought she was just being difficult as most 13 year olds are but yeh, its pretty terrible. Hubby really wanted it and is super disappointed. Its made from cheap plastic and I feel we will die from some disease if we continue to use it. Looking to purchase another one from another company. Do not buy.
This unit comes with a mesh basket and divider so you can cook two portions of food at once.  We also liked that the timer can be set up to 60 minutes which is double that of other models such as the GoWise or Avalon Bay Air Fryer.  On the top of the model, you’ll find two indicator lights, one for when the air fryer is turned on and the other for when the preheat temperature is reached.  This is a cool feature as it means you’re only cooking at the temperature that you set rather than wasting time as it heats up.

The Philips Airfryer XL turned in the best performance of all on our cooking tests. This machine was better than any other at cooking evenly from one end of the basket to the other. Foods came out crispy and delicious, especially the fries. Our chicken wings also were impressive. That being said, it creates a lot of smoke, it’s loud and it’s hard to clean, keeping it shy of our top pick. Beyond that, it is large and expensive – about double the average price of the others in our lineup – but it is an impressive machine. If you do a lot of deep frying for big groups, this might be worth the investment, though, in order to fry in a healthier way. If you need something more compact, consider the Bella Air Convection Fryer.
The air fryer comes with a basket divider, which like the Black and Decker Air Fryer, is used to split the cooking basket in two so you can effectively cook two food items.  This model also comes in a 5.3 qt and and a smaller 3.4 qt capacity.  If you’re cooking for a family (3-4 people) then the larger size is a clear choice, though it is slightly more expensive.
I have read so many reviews on the air fryer and thought I would give it a try. Since bringing it home, I have made fries (awesome turnout) and chicken (jerk...see pic). I also tried chicken with just seasoning (no breading) and they came out perfect. But I have one con to this contraption.....its too small. In order to make a meal for my family, I had to first cook the chicken, THEN cook the fries. I wish it had the divider like the Power Air Fryer XL. I love this thing and it's so easy for my kids. They can just throw in the food, set it and forget it. This is not great if trying to cook more than one food item, but its great for a single person or if making a quick batch of fries. I gave it 4 stars for the size, but everything else is great. I use it every day. It was a great purchase.
The Cozyna 3.7 QT is a perfect small and yet very powerful convection oven which you can use to cook just about anything faster and without the mess involved in traditional frying, roasting, baking or grilling. After you are done, you can quickly take it apart and pop it into the dishwasher. It is a great kitchen appliance which doesn’t take up too much space, and which uses minimal amounts of oil for preparing your meals.

If you’re OK with an air fryer taking up a lot of space, than the Philips XL comes with our recommendation.  With a price exceeding the $200 mark, it is a fairly expensive piece of equipment but it does cook food to a very high standard and is well built and usable.  Included in this price is a free app and recipe book with more than 150 recipes.  You’ll also have the option of purchasing a grill pan and double layer rack with skewers as additional cooking accessories.
When air-fried either whole or halved lengthwise, okra's characteristic slimy texture is greatly diminished. The outside of each pod gets slightly dehydrated by the hot air of the air fryer, which aids in achieving a crunchy exterior without the excess grease of a deep-fat fryer or the sad, torn strands stuck to the baking sheet from roasting it in an oven.
Buyer beware! Bought this oven from television, called number on screen. Telephone operator was polite and did her job well. When oven came shipping included of course I was surprised to find out that the insides were plastic, really we all know that is rediculous! Called for return info. NO return shipping included. It cost me 80.00 dollars to return! So would not have ordered had I known. The accessories seemed very cheap as well. Still licking my wounds on this one.
While many of the air fryers we tested had some great features, the NuWave Brio combined the most of those features into one appliance to outshine the competition. The Brio was able to churn out batch after batch of crispy fries and chicken wings during our tests. The final results were almost perfect. There were just a few spots that were a little lighter or darker, depending on the batch, but this air fryer was impressive for its consistently crispy and evenly cooked results overall.

I love your site and have made so many of your delicious recipes. When you started talking about a air fryer I just had to get one. It arrived yesterday. We ordered the power air fryer oven, then one on the infomercials. I’m so excited to print your recipes and try them. This one comes with trays and a rotisserie turner. Your excitement for them was so contagious!! Thank you!!!

Cooking aficionados, behold! The Philips XL Airfryer is the perfect kitchen companion for anybody who likes cooking up a storm for their family and friends. This Gordon Ramsay approved air fryer has a large capacity basket that holds up to 2.65 lbs. of food, a perfect if you have a family of 4. Not only is it capable of frying food, but also grilling, roasting, steaming, and baking. Here are some of the features:
Piece of trash. I was so excited to buy this oven, thinking it would be healthier, convenient & faster way to feed our family. The oven on tv isn’t the same version, so we upgraded. Food looked so delicious on tv wrong wrong! I used the rotisserie for a whole chicken but can only have a chicken weighing 4 lbs. To return it you must insure & sent usps or ups $105 later we sent it back. What a rip-off.
Although it’s a little smaller in size and capacity, the Power Air Fryer XL can cook and crisp about one pound of food at once. It has digital controls with preset programs. We found it somewhat generic in appearance and the basket doesn’t glide out as smoothly as on some. But on the positive side, it cleans up in the dishwasher, comes with a recipe booklet, and won’t set you back a bundle.
“… air frying significantly reduced moisture and oil uptake. In terms of free fatty acids, peroxide values and other physicochemical changes, researchers reported greater changes in the oil extracted from traditional frying methods, in comparison to air frying. Overall, researchers concluded that using an air-fryer is, in fact, a healthier technique.”

There are several indications on top of the model that point out the recommended time and temperature settings for common food items like chips, chicken, steak and fish.  There is also a warmup light which is something we have not seen in other models.  The idea is that once the warmup is complete, the button will light up meaning you should the put the food in, thus ensuring that a stable temperature is applied at all times.
This one is similar to the others in that it can make a number of fried creations using a fraction of the oil of traditional frying. Biggest differences include that it's dishwasher safe, it comes with two cookbooks filled with air fryer recipes, and it received more than 1,200 reviews from happy customers, rating it an average 4.4 out of 5 stars. When you consider most people are rating it based on how close it gets to authentic fried food, that's a pretty darn good review for this air-circulating crisper.
Traded in my Big Boss Air Fryer for one of these and I absolutely love it. I cooked bacon the other day. You need to rotate the racks every now and then because the top cooks faster than the others and you need to spritz them lightly with cooking spray. Two days ago I used the rotisserie. Took me a while to find the spit because it was on the bottom of the styrofoam packaging. Good thing I didn't throw it out. It's a great little oven. It would be perfect for a student in college or a senior. I just love it.
Obviously, you can cook roast beef in the oven to great success, but it takes a lot of tinkering with time and temperature to get that perfect medium-rare inside and, like, when was the last time you made homemade roast beef?! Air frying the roast gives you more precise control over the time and temperature and, if followed to a T per the recipe in my book, will give you perfect results in just 40 minutes flat, bringing yet another time-intensive and finicky dish into the world of easy weeknight cooking.
"When you deep fry okra it gets greasy and slimy. When you bake it it gets soggy and slimy. But when you air fry it, it kind of dehydrates it a little bit. The heat gets through the skin of the okra to crisp it up a bit and take away a lot of the sliminess." In the book, there's a recipe for charred okra with a peanut chile sauce, which gives the appealing crispy texture of that southern favorite covered in cornmeal breading and deep fried, with only a little oil and some salt and pepper.
Unfortunately we didn’t get our hands on this model but from reading dozens of reviews one thing consistently props up and it’s to do with hear.  Let’s say you’re cooking chips and then you need to turn them over.  It has been reported that the drawer expands due to the high temperatures, making removing and re-inserting it extremely difficult.  It gets so bad that some users have reported waiting for the appliance to cool down so the drawer regains its original shape.
I really liked the way the airfryer worked and performed but after only three times the fan quit it cost me 40 bucks to return it !!!! also if I would have got it replaced , the NEW unit WOULD NOT HAVE CAME WITH ANOTHER 60 DAY WARRANTY !!! SO WHAT'S THAT SAY ABOUT THEIR FAITH IN THEIR PRODUCT !!! ALSO THEY WOULD NOT REIMBURSE MY SHIPPING FEE !!! Like I said, I loved how it performed !!! BUT UNTIL THEY ADMIT AND ADDRESS THE FAN PROBLEM I WILL NEVER BUY ANOTHER ONE OF THEIR PRODUCTS !!! DO NOT BUY THIS PRODUCT !!!!!
