"It was called an air fryer for marketing purposes, but it's a little unfortunate, because, first, people think they can only do fried food in it and that it's a gimmicky single use appliance," Ben Mims, author of the new book Air Fry Every Day, says. "Second, people think that things can be thrown into it just like a deep fat fryer and will come out the same. That is a hundred percent not the case."

Even if you are satisfied with the air fryer’s facsimile of fried flavor and texture, and you’re eager to eat as many almost-fried foods as possible, most air fryers can’t give you consistent results. While they tend to excel at cooking frozen foods, many models struggle to cook fresh veggies, potatoes and meat evenly without leaving burnt or raw spots. A smaller model of our top pick for air fryers, the Philips Airfryer XXL, produced dry, unevenly cooked french fries that couldn’t compare to their deep-fried counterparts.

If you want to cook snacks or food for your entire big family at once, then the Secura 1500 could be the best option for you. It has a high capacity and large 3.2-liter basket.  You will have full control over what you are cooking thanks to the modifiable temperature control from 180 to 400 degrees Fahrenheit. It uses very little oil and instead cooks the food via hot air and rapid hot air circulation. This means much fewer calories and Trans fats and much healthier and delicious snacks and meals for you and your family.
Some drawbacks to this machine are that it is loud and very smoky. All of the fryers produced more smoke than we expected, but this one was the worst for that. It was also tough to clean. This was one of few that had a cooking basket made of wire, like hot-oil fryers. That means there are lots of tiny grooves to get clean. The denser metal baskets on competing air fryers had larger openings that didn’t trap food as much. We pre-soaked the Philips basket, but it still took some effort to get it totally clean. At least you have the option of throwing it in the dishwasher.

I have precious little counter space in my little kitchen, but this has a permanent home! I absolutely adore this thing. Best thing I've gotten since I got the Ninja 3 in 1 cooker. Those are the two appliances that have a home on my counter. Chicken wings in the fryer are awesome. You can also make some awesome brats or dogs in it and get a nice crispy crunch to the skins. I've done a few roasted veggies that are awesome. The quiche I made got a little over done but was terrific. I had bought the NuWave from QVC and absolutely hated that thing. I sold it before my convenient 5 pay option was over. It was so cumbersome and awkward to use in my small kitchen. The clean up on this one is so easy. you basically just rinse it out and dry it off. Attaching a picture of some wings I did today with some homemade blue cheese.

Will it be frozen fries, chicken wings, chips, and other simple dishes, or more complex recipes that require different heating options, like grilling, steaming, and baking? Air fryers like the Philips XL AirFry are perfect for people who will need an appliance with different modes so they can make a large variety of meals. The downside to it is the steep learning curve you have to go through in order to understand the machine fully, but once you do, you’ll be making mouth-watering cuisine in no time.

When it comes to air fryers, there are many options to choose from. Gourmia is a credible brand which electronic devices are famous for their high quality. We have reviewed top five air fryers of this brand and now can give an expert overview of each of them. Here you can read all the pros, cons, and a general overview of the appliances to form your opinion and purchase only the best.
Comfort food just got quicker and easier courtesy of your air fryer. These crispy "baked" potatoes may seem indulgent, but smart portions of bacon, cheese, and sour cream add big flavor while keeping calories and sat fat in check. The secret is the center-cut bacon—it cooks up nice and crispy, and yields just enough pan drippings to make these potatoes really shine.
When it comes to frying, the Philips Airfryer XXL knocked it out of the park. During testing, we tasted an awful lot of French fries and the Philips cooked up the fries we couldn’t stop noshing on. They had the combination of crunchiness, tenderness, and potato flavor that make great fries so delectable. Even when we loaded the basket with more than three pounds of frozen fries, they came out crispy. Battered Nashville hot chicken came out with a crackling crust and hamburgers rivaled ones made on the grill.
All of the air fryers we tested have a pan and basket with a nonstick coating; you should avoid using metal cooking utensils or abrasive sponges, which could damage the surface. Though most manufacturers say you can wash the pan and basket in a dishwasher, we don’t recommend it. Washing the pieces by hand using hot water and dish soap will help the nonstick coating last longer.
My husband really liked this, but like some others, I also had trouble with it not being cooked through. Not your fault — I suspect the problem is that I had thick chicken breasts, so when I sliced them through lengthwise, they were thicker than yours were. Maybe it would be worthwhile to guess how thick yours are, and put that number in so that people can know they should pound theirs down a bit if they’re thicker?

Piece of trash. I was so excited to buy this oven, thinking it would be healthier, convenient & faster way to feed our family. The oven on tv isn’t the same version, so we upgraded. Food looked so delicious on tv wrong wrong! I used the rotisserie for a whole chicken but can only have a chicken weighing 4 lbs. To return it you must insure & sent usps or ups $105 later we sent it back. What a rip-off.
The exhaust system also regulates temperature increases created by internal pressure by emitting extra air if needed. Before being released into the environment, the extra air goes through a filter which removes odors. Once your food is ready, the internal heating elements are cooled down with fresh air passed through these filters by the built-in cooling system.

You can easily and safely cook just about anything in this excellent kitchen appliance.  The handy recipe book has 50 wonderful recipes to get you started, but pretty soon you will find that you are using the GoWISE USA 3.7 quart air fryer much more than you are using any other of your kitchen appliances. Forget about all the mess during and after cooking with this convenient model.

If you’re OK with an air fryer taking up a lot of space, than the Philips XL comes with our recommendation.  With a price exceeding the $200 mark, it is a fairly expensive piece of equipment but it does cook food to a very high standard and is well built and usable.  Included in this price is a free app and recipe book with more than 150 recipes.  You’ll also have the option of purchasing a grill pan and double layer rack with skewers as additional cooking accessories.

“Our friends have been raving about air fryers for the longest time. We were always intrigued, but never went through with the purchase. Well, we finally gave in … If you’re going to eat fried- or crispy-type foods anyway, might as well make it healthier, no? This thing is convenient, quick, easy-to-use! You get crispy, delicious foods with less guilt than you normally would. We’ve done the fried frozen foods, and raw wings, chops, and Thai ribs. EVERYTHING TASTES SO. DARN. GOOD. We haven’t quite perfected sweet-potato fries yet, but we’ll get there soon. Sometimes the presets are good, sometimes not so good. If it’s not to our liking, we just add more or adjust the next time — it’s not too bad.”
Finally, we compared the basket weight of the products, how easy the controls were to operate, and whether the machine was actually hassle-free to clean up. Fortunately for our co-workers, the air-frying process was measurably less messy than deep frying. We didn’t have an oily pool to clean up afterward; the components were smaller than deep fryer parts; and the total cook time was pretty short, so you don’t have to waste all that time waiting. The controls are all pretty intuitive and simple to use: You can choose from the presets or go rogue and set your own temperature and time.
Ease of use. If you are a tech minded millennial, you will most likely be looking at air fryers with a digital touch screen interface. Personally, that’s always my choice, as I’m always afraid to break the control knob. On the other hand, for those of us more traditionally inclined in our gadget choices, there are air fryers with an analog interface.
There are so many things you can make in an air fryer, in fact, the possibilities are endless. I know my kid’s would love these Air Fryer Chicken Nuggets. And who wouldn’t love a batch of these Air Fryer Spicy Sweet Potato Fries? And who would have thought Air Fryer Roasted Corn would turn out so perfect.  And holy wow these Copycat Taco Bell Air Fryer Crunch Wraps sound over the top. But these Air Fryer Reuben Egg Rolls also sound crazy addictive.
The Philips HD9240/94 XL Airfryer is basically a larger version of the Philips HD9641/96 Airfryer. In our tests, the two devices performed similarly, but we think the larger model is impractical for most people because it takes up a lot of counter space and costs $300. The booklet guidelines are not reliable, either: The directions say to cook 4 ounces of chicken breasts at 290 °F for eight minutes and then at 360 °F for six minutes. Unfortunately, 290 °F isn’t a temperature option on this model.

We tested chips – the staple food of the air fryer.  The recipe book that comes with the unit recommended a temperature setting of 450 °F and a timer of 20 minutes.  At the end of the time (including flipping the chips over midway) we found the chips on the edge of the mesh basket to be cooked more than the ones in the center.  We had to cook the chips for 5 minutes longer to get all of them to a good level of crispiness.  It’s not a huge deal, but other air fryers like the Phillips XL and Black and Decker obviously have a better way of circulating the hot air more evenly.  Luckily there is a 60 minute timer which we feel is needed since food is probably going to take longer then you expect with this unit.
“Love this thing! First off, the food tastes amazing! Second, it’s so easy to operate, even my hubby uses it (and he can’t boil water — sorry, Joe). Third, it cuts cooking time in half of baking time — and you don’t have to preheat! And last, it cleans up so easily! I never leave appliances out on my counter — except for this baby. Can’t imagine not having one for the rest of my life!”
I saw a commerical about an air fryer. I wanted to buy it so bad but it was over $150. Im in my early 20s and thats not my budget. I checked reviews on WalMart and seen this fryer. The reviews are true!! And the price is a steal. The appliance itself is beautiful. Fits perfectly on your counter top and matches any kitchen scheme. Its self explantory and easy to use! I tested almost everything within moments I got it. Fries, nuggets & raw seasoned chicken! My famous broiled chicken no longer needs to go in the oven! This quart fit all 5 pieces of chicken breast in there!! I flipped a few times for even cooking but its like a mini oven. Eating healthy is hard and this makes me so happy. I dont have to sacrifice my fav foods. A lot of chicken! Seasoned w/ pepper & cajun. No oil added or anything special.

CON: The trays came a little warped, though I later when I used the trays for chicken wings, the heat helped straighten the trays a bit. The little plastic channels for the trays are very difficult to use. It takes me a couple of tries of very careful insertion in order to catch the grooves correctly. This is incredibly difficult when you have super hot trays, heavy with food on them.
