We put this to the test with chicken pieces, chips and fish, all of which came out crispy and equally browned on all sides.  Of course, as recommended by most recipes, we also flipped the food items midway through cooking.  Don’t expect the same results if you don’t do this.  Overall, it was clear all sides of the food were exposed to the hot air circulating around.
A few months back, I went to a kitchen appliance trade show and was surprised by the large number of manufacturers coming out with air fryers. "Enjoy great tasting fried food"[sic] reads the cover recipe booklet for Philip's new Airfryer XXL, a lovely sounding idea. With their focus on faux fried flavor, an aversion to fat, and an emphasis on convenience in the marketing from almost every manufacturer, the rise of air fryers felt like the second coming of the George Foreman Grill.
I grew up just about an hour South of Buffalo, New York and I have definitely consumed my fair share of Buffalo Wings. We would eat them every Friday night and everyone in town had their opinion on who made the best wings in town. In our house, the wings almost always came from The Cherry Lounge. But, I’ve never actually been there… Being that it was a “lounge” and I was in high school, I was never actually allowed in. So, my mom would just get a to-go order and bring them home for us. I love them super spicy, and they have to be served with icy cold celery sticks and blue cheese (not ranch). text
While not inexpensive, the Cuisinart Airfryer Toaster Oven is definitely cheaper—not to mention more space efficient—than buying two separate countertop appliances. It comes with an air fryer basket to be used along with an air fryer setting. We found it worked as well, and in some cases better, than air fryers at browning and crisping. It also happens to be a darn good toaster oven. (See our toaster oven recommendations if you're in the market for one of those instead.)
I have had this product for about 1 week now, and am overall pleased with my purchase. I've read multiple reviews prior to purchasing and knew what I was getting into prior to its arrival, and was able to try a few things out to make my own conclusions. Also there are many more reviews from the UK/Australia, but I use the US version and have cooking times in farenheit etc.
This past Spring I went to NYC for my cookbook tour, and I had the chance to eat at By Chloe, an excellent vegan fast-food chain that makes Air-Baked fries. I was HOOKED. These fries were light, crispy on the outside and potato-pillowy on the inside. I don’t know if By Chloe uses an Air Fryer, but I figured that whatever technique they do use couldn’t be far off, and I purchased this Phillips Air Fryer.
And I can confidently conclude the Airfryer was MADE to fry frozen french fries. These perfect spears of starchy comfort came out crispy, steaming hot, and with good variation between softer and slightly burnt pieces. With just a dash of salt, I swear I could package these in stamped brown bags and sell 'em in my hipster neighborhood for $5 a pop. (BTW, these are the frozen fries I used — nothing special.)
The timer is a sore point as it only goes up to 30 minutes and it must be noted that if you pull your food out during cooking, it will continue ticking on.  It’s a bit annoying at first but easily fixed if you pre-emptively set the time with this action already planned for.  This is another common issue prevalent in all analog air fryers and is resolved if you opt for the digital model.
My husband bought me this Air Fryer for mother's day this year and I absolutely loved it. I used it all the time and even told friends and family about it and encouraged them to purchase one.... Then, two nights ago, it came on by itself in the middle of the night while we were sleeping and got so hot that it melted the plastic on the back of the unit by the vent. We were lucky in that it set off the smoke detectors in the house and we were able to remove the basket and unplug it before it caught anything on fire!! If you are going to buy this product (or already have it), I would highly recommend that you UNPLUG it when not in use and keep it in an area away from anything else that is flammable when in use. I am planning to buy another air fryer, but will definitely look for a brand that at least carries a warranty for more than 60 days!!

The Philips Airfryer XL turned in the best performance of all on our cooking tests. This machine was better than any other at cooking evenly from one end of the basket to the other. Foods came out crispy and delicious, especially the fries. Our chicken wings also were impressive. That being said, it creates a lot of smoke, it’s loud and it’s hard to clean, keeping it shy of our top pick. Beyond that, it is large and expensive – about double the average price of the others in our lineup – but it is an impressive machine. If you do a lot of deep frying for big groups, this might be worth the investment, though, in order to fry in a healthier way. If you need something more compact, consider the Bella Air Convection Fryer.

Who doesn’t love a corn dog? These whimsical, perfect little bites of smoky hot dog goodness come with a crunchy cornflake coating—thanks to the air fryer—that will make party guests smile. Look for high-quality uncured hot dogs at upscale grocery stores such as Whole Foods. Mustard is best friends with corn dogs, so pick out your favorite to serve with these fun and festive snacks.
One of the secrets to getting the best results from your air fryer is to coat foods with a dry mixture that cooks up nice and crispy. Here, we’ve used omega-3 rich flaxseeds to add a super-food style crunch to French toast. Thanks to this delicious recipe, you can feel great about treating your kids to these on Saturday morning (they’ll never guess they’re eating a fiber-rich and heart-healthy breakfast!).
It worked great and I loved it for the first 100 days, until the fan quit working. I got a replacement and the second one lasted 20 days and the fan went out again. Power Air Fryer is a joke and a huge piece of junk. I will not spend money to send something back a second time to get fixed. Two in a row with the same issue, a big waste of money. Don't buy, don't buy, don't buy.
Recent standout releases include Clear TV, the Copper Chef lineup, as well as other products bearing the Power Air Fryer brand name. In fact, since they use the same Rapid Air cyclonic technology and pre-set functionality, it’s worth pointing out that we performed an in-depth review of the Air Fryer, which could help provide some meaningful insight into some of what you might expect:

We tested chips – the staple food of the air fryer.  The recipe book that comes with the unit recommended a temperature setting of 450 °F and a timer of 20 minutes.  At the end of the time (including flipping the chips over midway) we found the chips on the edge of the mesh basket to be cooked more than the ones in the center.  We had to cook the chips for 5 minutes longer to get all of them to a good level of crispiness.  It’s not a huge deal, but other air fryers like the Phillips XL and Black and Decker obviously have a better way of circulating the hot air more evenly.  Luckily there is a 60 minute timer which we feel is needed since food is probably going to take longer then you expect with this unit.
It is possible that you could make yours crunchier and less burnt by setting the Airfryer to a lower temperature and leaving it in for longer, but having tasted the few perfectly air-fried pieces in my batch, I'm not sure than any batch of air-fried raw vegetables could mirror the same taste or texture of the deep-fried, crunchy, melt-in-your-mouth kind.
Drumettes have more meat than wings—that's what we use in this tasty recipe for air fryer chicken wings—but either will work. The air fryer basket gets overcrowded easily, so only cook 10 wings at a time, or stir the wings frequently so that they cook evenly. These wings have a sweet and spicy Asian flavor; sprinkle them with some toasted sesame seeds for extra crunch.
If you plan to buy this tool now, do not waste your time – because its price is quite affordable, while the quality is really high. But let us talk about the product first! Philips air fryer exists in the black and white color – you can decide what fits better to your kitchen interior. Were you aware of the fact that Gordon Ramsey teams up with this particular model to prove that making healthy and delicious food is possible? When you buy this tool, you get the recipe book with 150 amazing recipes for you.
But it can rock out these super-crunchy spanakopita bites! These savory Greek phyllo pastries are filled with spinach and salty cheeses with just a little hit of lemon and heat. Classic spanakopita calls for brushing the phyllo with butter; this version calls for olive oil, which adds even more Greek flavor. Filled with nutrient-rich spinach, these crispy treats make an excellent party dish or appetizer.
Unlike the others, the Oster DuraCeramic Air Fryer is round and has a see-through lid, so you can watch what’s cooking. It has a detachable handle that clips on the bowl to remove it after air frying; we found it tricky to use. For cooking items like fries, there’s a mechanism to use the fryer in a tilted position to eliminate the need to shake or toss during cooking. In our cook-off, the Oster took the longest to cook and gave the least crispy results of all we tested.
Overall, this air fryer is an excellent pick for anyone looking to get a quality analog appliance that does a fine cooking job.  We do find it to be slightly expensive considering the limited accessories that come with the unit.  However; if you’re happy to fork over the cost then we highly recommend this little cooker.  One more thing…it’s endorsed by Gordan Ramsay.
Obviously, you can cook roast beef in the oven to great success, but it takes a lot of tinkering with time and temperature to get that perfect medium-rare inside and, like, when was the last time you made homemade roast beef?! Air frying the roast gives you more precise control over the time and temperature and, if followed to a T per the recipe in my book, will give you perfect results in just 40 minutes flat, bringing yet another time-intensive and finicky dish into the world of easy weeknight cooking.
In a bowl, mix and mash the ingredients for the guacamole WITHOUT the almond flour.  Once you have the desired taste, add in the almond flour until it the guacamole is thick, like brownie batter.  Add additional tablespoons of almond flour to the batter as needed to make it thick.  Be careful not to add too much lime juice as that will make the guacamole wet and loose. Set the bowl in the freezer to harden for 1 – 2 hours until it has hardened.
Although it’s a little smaller in size and capacity, the Power Air Fryer XL can cook and crisp about one pound of food at once. It has digital controls with preset programs. We found it somewhat generic in appearance and the basket doesn’t glide out as smoothly as on some. But on the positive side, it cleans up in the dishwasher, comes with a recipe booklet, and won’t set you back a bundle.
My husband really liked this, but like some others, I also had trouble with it not being cooked through. Not your fault — I suspect the problem is that I had thick chicken breasts, so when I sliced them through lengthwise, they were thicker than yours were. Maybe it would be worthwhile to guess how thick yours are, and put that number in so that people can know they should pound theirs down a bit if they’re thicker?
