Piece of trash. I was so excited to buy this oven, thinking it would be healthier, convenient & faster way to feed our family. The oven on tv isn’t the same version, so we upgraded. Food looked so delicious on tv wrong wrong! I used the rotisserie for a whole chicken but can only have a chicken weighing 4 lbs. To return it you must insure & sent usps or ups $105 later we sent it back. What a rip-off.

I grew up just about an hour South of Buffalo, New York and I have definitely consumed my fair share of Buffalo Wings. "It was called an air fryer for marketing purposes, but it's a little unfortunate, because, first, people think they can only do fried food in it and that it's a gimmicky single use appliance," Ben Mims, author of the new book Air Fry Every Day, says. A few months back, I went to a kitchen appliance trade show and was surprised by the large number of manufacturers coming out with air fryers. "Enjoy great tasting fried food"[sic] reads the cover recipe booklet for Philip's new Airfryer XXL, a lovely sounding idea. With their focus on faux fried flavor, an aversion to fat, and an emphasis on convenience in the marketing from almost every manufacturer, the rise of air fryers felt like the second coming of the George Foreman Grill.
Cooking results ranged from acceptable to mediocre. When we cooked 28 ounces of frozen french fries at 350 degrees Fahrenheit in the Philips HD9641/96 for 25 minutes, most turned out evenly cooked, but a handful of fries were still underdone. However, the Philips air fryer fared better than others we tested, such as the GoWISE USA GW22621 and Avalon Bay Digital Air Fryer 220SS, which burned the fries closest to the heating element and left the ones on the bottom of the basket completely raw. The hand-cut fries we cooked in the Philips HD9641/96 using ½ tablespoon of oil were evenly browned, but they had a dried-out, dehydrated texture. Some of the fish sticks and breaded chicken tenders were soggy in places and not as crispy as we had hoped, even after we increased the cooking time. And though the pork chops we cooked in the Philips HD9641/96 had nice color around the edges, the centers were pale and unappetizing. The edges of the meat were browned, but the surface was almost completely pale, and the result didn’t hold a candle to the glistening, evenly browned pork chop you can get from cooking in a skillet. Is a device that cooks food so poorly worth $250? Nope, it isn’t.
Desserts, and especially brownies, may seem like the last thing you want to subject to the intense high heat of an air fryer, but fortunately, that same heat works to the brownie’s advantage here. No more picking the right brownie square that’s the perfect mixture of chewy and fudgy, because when you bake up brownie batter in a pan in the air fryer, the heat of the machine sets the outsides like a traditional brownie by the time the inside is cooked, but still left fudgy and gooey, creating almost its own “sauce” for the rest of the brownie. Lift it out of the machine, top it with scoops of ice cream, and dig in with two or four spoons and forget about cutting bars forever.
Someone told me an excellent suggestion - use Reynolds PARCHMENT PAPER directly under the food to be cooked. If not at your grocer, you can get it on Amazon. No mess to be cleaned up in the fryer; just toss the parchment paper. After cutting off the necessary size of the Reynolds parchment paper, perforate it by poking about a dozen slits/holes with tip of a sharp knife to cook the food evenly. Or you can get 200 9" diameter circular perforated parchment papers for a reasonable price also on Amazon. Philips - take note.
Our own testing agrees with other users experience.  We first put in frozen chips and set it to what was recommended in the cookbook.  They came out well cooked and crispy.  Next we threw in some chicken drumsticks – 4 in total – and found the top and bottom to be more brown than the sides.  Note that we were testing the larger 5 L model, but the results can be applied to the smaller capacity version as well.
I bought my Power Air Fryer Oven the end of September. I didn't use it right away, but when I finally did, it worked fair. I figured I needed to get used to using it. Yesterday I decided to dehydrate some fruit. I put it in the oven, pushed the dehydrate setting - 8 hours later you couldn't even tell it had been in the dehydrate. I removed the fruit and decided to make some fries. I shut off the machine and turned it back on using the french fry setting. No blower, turned it off and unplugged it for a few minutes. I tried again and again, no blower. I would guess I haven't even used it ten times.
I preheated the air fryer and my oven, prepped the birds and immediately ran into trouble. I had to cram the tiny chicken into the air fryer basket, and as soon as I closed the door, I could smell something burning. I'd clearly exceeded the height limit for this ride, and now dinner was running late. I fished the slightly singed chicken out, set it on a cutting board and—getting a little desperate since people were on the way over—did what must have looked like man-on-chicken chest compressions in an attempt to break the backbone, or at least flatten the thing out a bit before performing some innovative re-trussing. Surprisingly, it worked.
CR’s take: The As Seen on TV Power AirFryer XL has a 5.3-quart capacity—one of the largest in our ratings—and is easiest to clean, in part because of the basket’s nonstick coating; it rates Excellent in our cleaning tests. The digital controls and preprogrammed settings are a snap to read and use. This model is on the noisy side, about as loud as a typical countertop microwave. That’s not a big drawback if you’re cooking something that takes just a few minutes. But the sound might prove annoying for longer tasks. The Power XL’s warranty is the shortest of the bunch—just 60 days.
I went to the store and there they were, same brand and everything. I split up the bag, and started one batch in the air fryer, and another in my oven with the convection off, then made a follow-up batch using the convection setting. The air fryer fries were nicely browned and crisp, but a bit hollowed out, seemingly at the expense of some pleasant creaminess inside. The no-convection oven batch was more leathery on the outside, creamy within, and noticeably less browned. The convection oven version landed squarely between the two.
In terms of accessories, you get an e-book and physical cookbook with more than 40 recipes.  Perhaps the biggest incentive to give this air fryer a go, is the 2 year warranty which suggests a quality build.  However; we did find it hard to slide the bottom drawer or ‘container’ back in and it required multiple attempts.  In fact, several online reviews have also pointed out this issue and it looks to be a design oversight from the brand.
SO GOOD! We eat these a lot in my house – with the almond flour. They are super crispy and delicious! My gluten free kid and grain free husband love them! Sometimes I get some paleo buffalo sauce and brush both sides of the chicken tender and bake them for 5 minutes at 350 after air frying to make buffalo chicken tenders – a trick I am pretty sure I learned from another Lexi recipe 😉

Bear in mind I have only used the product once - to fry sausage patties. Frying using three racks really saves a lot of time vs. Skillet frying. I think the unit has a lot of potential that is why I bought it. First thoughts, I wish there were more cooking ideas. Second, forget using an oven mitt. There is not enough room with the mitt to grasp the frying trays. I used a pot holder without any problem. Also removing the drip pan without spilling is slightly tedious. Finally, in frying multiple layers of food ( sausage for example ) remember the grease from the upper levels will simply drip down on the lower levels. Keep that in mind. Otherwise I look forward to do more with this unit.

If you’re looking for the best cooking ability, then the Black and Decker or either Phillips HD9240/94 or Phillips HD9220/28 are your the best picks.  Their cooking ability is a step up from the rest of the competition.  The Black and Decker is significantly less expensive and provides the best bang for your buck, but if cost isn’t an issue, then the Phillips models will also serve you well.

Ease of use. If you are a tech minded millennial, you will most likely be looking at air fryers with a digital touch screen interface. Personally, that’s always my choice, as I’m always afraid to break the control knob. On the other hand, for those of us more traditionally inclined in our gadget choices, there are air fryers with an analog interface.

Wings can be make easily in any air fryer simply by tossing dried wings in potato starch flour, spritzing with oil ( you can omit this if you want ) and cooking on the chicken setting. I will shake the basket every 10min. In the oven I believe you are supposed to rotate the racks every 10 min. I also do wings by taking damp wings and shaking them in a bag with seasoned coating like you would find in the store. This method will give you a bit more of a breading. Wings take approx 25 to 30 min to cook. I just keep an eye on them. You can tell when they are done. I like sauced wings so will take my wings, coat with sauce of choice and then put them under the broiler for about 4 minutes to set the sauce. If making buffalo style I don’t put those under the broiler I just toss in the sauce. Hope this helps. Ps, I get my potato starch flour on Amazon. It lasts a long time.
From there, I tried another recipe in the Philips recipe booklet: shrimp on lemongrass skewers with sweet potato fries. The idea is that you're supposed to cook it all in batches, a detail that subtly pops up on the very last line of the recipe. My estimate is that you'd have to do the fries in (at least) two batches, followed by the shrimp in two, turning it into 60 minutes of cooking time. Compare that to cooking the fries in the oven (there wasn't much difference in taste in the fries between the three methods), then blasting the shrimp under the broiler. Don't get me wrong, the results of all three methods for the shrimp were excellent, but the oven and broiler gave me more options and slightly superior results, and, thanks to the relatively luxurious amount of space in my oven, I could cook much more food in about half the time.
