So how does the air fryer stack up against the others on this list?  Well firstly, it’s a pretty generic design that follows the tried and true formula of two knobs to adjust the temperature and timer and a bottom drawer that houses the mesh basket.  Both of these elements are dishwasher friendly which is a good thing since they are the only components that need cleaning.
I ordered the Power Air Fryer Oven on 12-26-17 and it was delivered 1-16-18. Took a long time because of a back order. I used it once and the second time we tried to use it the fan would not blow air. So we packed it up and mailed it back on 1-19-18. I have called twice to find out if our package was received and got no answers just told to call back. We paid for this in full and now we have nothing! This is very upsetting that I can't get any answer and we are out $171.00 with no oven to use.

As someone that has avoided a deep fryer all of her years – yes, even for my doughnuts chapter in my cookbook I used a large,deep frying pan- I really wanted to try an Airfryer out. But fresh produce proved too raw — and resistant — to the heating powers of the Airfryer.

The Brio was able to churn out batch after batch of crispy fries and chicken wings during our tests. The final results were almost perfect. The Philips Airfryer XL turned in the best performance of all on our cooking tests. This machine was better than any other at cooking evenly from one end of the basket to the other. Foods came out crispy and delicious, especially the fries. Our chicken wings also were impressive. That being said, it creates a lot of smoke, it’s loud and it’s hard to clean, keeping it shy of our top pick. Beyond that, it is large and expensive – about double the average price of the others in our lineup – but it is an impressive machine. If you do a lot of deep frying for big groups, this might be worth the investment, though, in order to fry in a healthier way. If you need something more compact, consider the Bella Air Convection Fryer.
While not inexpensive, the Cuisinart Airfryer Toaster Oven is definitely cheaper—not to mention more space efficient—than buying two separate countertop appliances. It comes with an air fryer basket to be used along with an air fryer setting. We found it worked as well, and in some cases better, than air fryers at browning and crisping. - Frozen Foods - From my experience this is one area where it really shines. Instead of limp or soggy reheated frozen foods from the microwave, the Air Fryer can reheat just about anything I've thrown at it from frozen fish fillets to onion rings or corn dogs, and everything is crispy or crunchy as if fried in oil, but it's not, which makes it so much healthier.
The other night I was going to cook corn dogs and it ran for maybe a minute, or a minute and a half. It shut off and I still cannot get it to work, I called and talked to someone and asked if I could get just the oven, as I didn't need double of everything else. He was very rude and said I had to buy the whole works. I would love to speak to someone from the company. I don't like leaving negative feedback on anything but I will if I don't get a decent answer. It should last longer if they are as good as they say. To say the least, I am not happy!

Air fryers definitely cook more quickly than conventional ovens; on average, they cook about 20% faster, simply because of the way the hot air is compressed inside the fryer. That doesn’t necessarily mean they’ll cook more quickly than every other method of cooking available, but you’ll definitely cut down on cooking time with an air fryer as opposed to your huge, hot oven.
There are several indications on top of the model that point out the recommended time and temperature settings for common food items like chips, chicken, steak and fish.  There is also a warmup light which is something we have not seen in other models.  The idea is that once the warmup is complete, the button will light up meaning you should the put the food in, thus ensuring that a stable temperature is applied at all times.
Air fryers are healthier, if not necessarily better tasting, than deep frying. Our testers noted the lack of grease across all the finished foods — especially in the chicken strips. It was easily the biggest benefit we found with these products. We knew that air fryers only need a single tablespoon of oil to cook with, but we underestimated how favorable the results would be. Aside from that, though, none of the food really blew us out of the water. As our research had warned us, a lot of the air-fried foods were comparable to oven-cooked foods. The zucchini and broccoli were the major exceptions — they came out so dehydrated, they were nearly inedible.

"The high heat, circulating at a super-fast speed, dries out the chickpeas so they're almost dehydrated." And a dehydrated chickpea is a crispy chickpea.
Purchased Power Air Fryer Oven we have had an air fryer for years and love it so we were excited to try it. Five minutes after turning on the first time and very strong electrical odor was emitted and the fan quit. Did not work again. Odor so strong it lingered in the kitchen for hours. We are not first time air fryer users so this was very disappointing. Also machine cheaply made and tricky to use. Sending it back. Very dissatisfied.
Let me start by saying I loved my air fryer oven. We used it every day, it took the place of my oven...With that said, I have had my air fryer for about 9 months and today I went to use it and it shut off 2 minutes in, gave a E1 code. Does anyone know what that code means, and can my air fryer be fixed or reset? I would be very dissapointed if it's broken. They are not cheap, and I would have hoped it would last more than 9 months. Has anyone one out there had this E1 error code come up? If I can't fix it, I will not order a new one out of fear I will be out the $160 plus again. It was a great product while it lasted, but for the money, it didn't last long enough. My advice to anyone wanting to buy this product, beware that you may be dishing out money for a product that may not last!

UPDATED REVIEW: I liked this airfryer out of the box, but after eight months of regular use, I now know I could have done better. This got the job done, but it's just too small if you want to cook more than single servings. I tried stacking food in layers, which restricted the air flow, so had to cook food in multiple batches - which took forever. Cleaning the basket is an absolute nightmare. The mesh bottom gets filled in with food debris that can't easily be soaked or scrubbed out. After about five months, the plastic exterior of the cooking pan came loose. All that being said, I did like the way this fryer cooked. I decided to go with a 5.8 quart airfryer from another manufacturer (Simple Living) and found myself much more satisfied. Despite the Philips claim that the "starfish" at the bottom of the pan on this fryer makes a difference - I have found it absolutely does not. Not only that, but the other airfryer makes much less noise and has a digital display.

Eating from home frequently helps your health just as much as simply ordering nutritious food at restaurants. They might be a bit too small for that Thanksgiving dinner and, depending on the model you buy, you might not be able to do much else other than heat up frozen fries, but that’s a low price to pay for a machine that helps you eat healthy without much of a hassle. When talking about the Philips XL AirFry, Gordon Ramsay said, “Cooking healthy shouldn’t mean sacrificing taste.” We couldn’t agree more.

Bear in mind I have only used the product once - to fry sausage patties. Frying using three racks really saves a lot of time vs. Skillet frying. I think the unit has a lot of potential that is why I bought it. First thoughts, I wish there were more cooking ideas. Second, forget using an oven mitt. There is not enough room with the mitt to grasp the frying trays. I used a pot holder without any problem. Also removing the drip pan without spilling is slightly tedious. Finally, in frying multiple layers of food ( sausage for example ) remember the grease from the upper levels will simply drip down on the lower levels. Keep that in mind. Otherwise I look forward to do more with this unit.
Always unplug the air fryer and let the basket and unit cool prior to washing. It’s best to clean out the pan and basket after each use; otherwise any residual oil will smoke or cause the interior to smell a little funky. You can also clean the interior of the appliance with a damp cloth or paper towel. We think it’s best to store an air fryer with its basket slightly ajar to allow the interior to air out.

While the machines were cooking, we felt the exterior of each model to see if they became too hot. We also took note of any off smells while the appliances were operating. We assessed how easy the controls were to use and how accurate the cooking guidelines were for preparing common foods. Additionally, our testers evaluated the cooking capacity of each model, and we noted any egregiously noisy fans or annoying beeps. After testing we washed all of the fryer baskets by hand to see how easy they were to clean.
The “fryer” baskets on the models we tested have a nonstick coating. As we’ve learned from researching and testing nonstick skillets, the coating will eventually deteriorate with regular use and exposure to high heat. Additionally, our testers found each air fryer’s perforated basket and tray to be far more difficult to clean than the single sheet pan we used in the oven or toaster oven.
If you’re into meal prepping or are vegan, you know the beauty of the sweet potato, that versatile spud that’s good for you and takes well to any flavor you can imagine. You also know how long they take to cook, and that, as fries, they never really get that crispy. This is not the case in an air fryer, where the circulated high heat partially dehydrates the outside to a crisp, similar to eggplant, while cooking the insides until soft. Whether cut into fries, cubes, or spears, sweet potatoes cook up much faster than in the oven.
We tested chips – the staple food of the air fryer.  The recipe book that comes with the unit recommended a temperature setting of 450 °F and a timer of 20 minutes.  At the end of the time (including flipping the chips over midway) we found the chips on the edge of the mesh basket to be cooked more than the ones in the center.  We had to cook the chips for 5 minutes longer to get all of them to a good level of crispiness.  It’s not a huge deal, but other air fryers like the Phillips XL and Black and Decker obviously have a better way of circulating the hot air more evenly.  Luckily there is a 60 minute timer which we feel is needed since food is probably going to take longer then you expect with this unit.
If money is no object AND you are sure you will use it enough, then buy the Phillips. It’s sturdy, it’s got a few bells and whistles, such as a sliding rack to hold the basket, a preheat feature etc. even though, oddly, it only goes up in 30-degree increments. The bottom basket cleans easily, and the larger grid and higher wattage means even cooking and less need to flip. The larger grid does mean small things fall down. Get it HERE.
Perfectly flaky pies from your air fryer? You bet! Store-bought piecrust is a smart shortcut; it bakes up nice and flaky in the air fryer. Naturally, fresh peaches will make the best filling, but you can use thawed frozen peaches if the fresh kind aren’t in season. Don’t toss out the leftover peach juice—simmer it down in a small saucepan until thickened for a fantastic ice cream topper.

As a congenitally blind 65-year old cook, I’ve used all sorts of deep-fat fryers, and even pan fry. However, being a double widower, with no one to impress and cook for, I very rarely deep fry because of the setup and cleanup time. The 9220-28 or TFal seem like good candidates for me. I’ll probably use the timer on my Talking Magic Chef microwave, and can’t use digital beasties sans speech output, so analog is better than good. However, wondering which of the two might have more easily markable dial? Usually either notch outer edge of dial, or if nothing to aim notches at, mark the dials with loc-dots or highmark. Suggestions please?

Multifunction air fryers eat up more countertop real estate, but they’re designed to be kitchen workhorses. On top of the flipping features, the T-fal ActiFry is also relatively easy to use and well-designed. It offers an on/off button, and a timer, which maxes out at 99 minutes. The simplicity is a double-edged sword for some -- there’s no temperature dial here. Instead the fryer heats to 338 degrees, so you’ll modify how your food is cooked more based on how long you cook it rather than the temperature you cook it at.
I have read so many reviews on the air fryer and thought I would give it a try. Since bringing it home, I have made fries (awesome turnout) and chicken (jerk...see pic). I also tried chicken with just seasoning (no breading) and they came out perfect. But I have one con to this contraption.....its too small. In order to make a meal for my family, I had to first cook the chicken, THEN cook the fries. I wish it had the divider like the Power Air Fryer XL. I love this thing and it's so easy for my kids. They can just throw in the food, set it and forget it. This is not great if trying to cook more than one food item, but its great for a single person or if making a quick batch of fries. I gave it 4 stars for the size, but everything else is great. I use it every day. It was a great purchase.
Before buying an air fryer, you first need to understand what are you looking at in a fryer. If your focus is on food, taste, texture, and getting your recipes right, then skip the air fryer and buy a deep fryer. It uses a lot of oil and is unhealthy, but you won't get the exact taste and texture from an air fryer, and you risk drying out some foods.

There is also present an exhaust fan just above the cooking chamber that provides that much needed flow of air from the lower portions of the oven underneath the food. This ensures that the heated air flows through your food and keeps your entire food at the right temperature. Thus, your food is cooked at a much faster rate than otherwise, due to the hot blast given out by the fan.
“Would give ten stars if possible. This product is amazing. I was skeptical about the whole air-fryer process, but it truly works. It is so easy and makes a ton of different things! I have made frozen French fries, fried chicken, and even monkey bread. And every item came out perfectly. You do have to watch the items closely the first time you use it to get an accurate time frame, but once you have it down, you are good to go. And the cleanup is the best part. No mess, no oil! Definitely recommend this item to everyone.”

There are a handful of different air fryers on the market ranging from $70 to $200. I used the Gourmia GTA2500 model for the testing. When I opened the box, the amount of parts and accessories involved was a little overwhelming. It took a while to sort through everything and figure out what parts I actually needed and what was superfluous. Once assembled, the air fryer literally looked like a mini spaceship. Rather bulky and dome-like, I’m not entirely sure how I’d feel about having this live on my kitchen countertop—but I digress. I ended up using only the cooking rack and fry basket for the air fryer.
