As someone that has avoided a deep fryer all of her years – yes, even for my doughnuts chapter in my cookbook I used a large, deep frying pan- I really wanted to try an Airfryer out. The secret to the healthy frying is that the Phillips Airfryer uses their proprietary Rapid Air Technology. Thanks to this technology, the airfryer fries, bakes, roasts and grills with little to no oil, making it a perfect solution for fast, tasty and healthy meals and snacks.
“Wow — I love this MultiFry! My first test was to overload it with half-moon-cut potatoes and onion slices for pan-fried potatoes. I was merciless and loaded it up with three pounds of potatoes. Enough for six people. I used about five tablespoons of olive oil and set on four, with the bottom burner on. Forty minutes later, was I ever pleased. Beautiful, crispy bites of potatoes that I could monitor easily through the see-through cover, and the little stir paddle flipped and stirred to perfection while I was busy doing other things, like making ribs in the Instant Pot electric pressure cooker. So next night I made some catfish fillets and shrimp without the paddle. Perfection once again! I own the Power Air Fryer XL, and this outperforms it hands down.”
What makes the former product better than the traditional ovens? The former appliance is much smaller than the traditional ovens. This makes them an efficient and easy to store option for families. Many people will also tell you that this product gives you tasty and crispy food at a faster speed. It is true! A traditional oven may heat up the food in 10 minutes, but the latter allows you to cook the delicacy in just 6 minutes. Do you see the difference?
The digital touch screen allows you to set the temperature up to 390 °F which is high enough to fry any food.  There is a also a smart pre-set button to save your cooking settings for when you want to cook the same dish again.  When it’s time to clean, a dish washing safe detachable basket and drawer ensures the components that gets most dirty is also the easiest to clean.  However; we did find the mesh basket to be a bit bothersome to clean as food and residue can get caught between the grates.
Because it offers so much, the device is quite a bit larger than other air fryers. That may not be a bad thing considering it can replace more than one device on your counter. The TOA-60 boasts a 0.6 cubic foot interior, an adjustable thermostat, 60-minute timer, and the necessary accessories to make use of all its functions. Most users love it too -- it currently has a 4.5-star average on Amazon, across 225 reviews.
An appliance I wish I had bought a long time ago! Discovered even one tablespoon of oil was too much to make really crispy french fries. Appreciate not having to deal with a pot of frying oil, as well as the calories I didn't take in because mine were air fried. Only thing I would hope for is an accessory second shelf such as the one Philip's makes for their model. The photo I've uploaded is the remainder of fries after my husband and I had our generous portions.
While the machines were cooking, we felt the exterior of each model to see if they became too hot. We also took note of any off smells while the appliances were operating. We assessed how easy the controls were to use and how accurate the cooking guidelines were for preparing common foods. Additionally, our testers evaluated the cooking capacity of each model, and we noted any egregiously noisy fans or annoying beeps. After testing we washed all of the fryer baskets by hand to see how easy they were to clean.

Before buying an air fryer, you first need to understand what are you looking at in a fryer. If your focus is on food, taste, texture, and getting your recipes right, then skip the air fryer and buy a deep fryer. It uses a lot of oil and is unhealthy, but you won't get the exact taste and texture from an air fryer, and you risk drying out some foods.

It is a multifunctional appliance which you can use instead of your oven, deep oil fryer, pans, convection oven, and others. This model can fry, steam, bake, and roast and grill various foods for you. This limits the energy consumption from needing to use all kinds of other appliance for cooking food and also ensures that you don’t consume too much unhealthy oil with the meals you prepare. It also limits the mess of using too many utensils and having oil splatters around the kitchen.
This is absolutely where air fryers come out on top. Deep fat frying is dangerous and resource-heavy, and takes a lot of effort. In stark contrast, air fryers are pretty light on effort, and don’t require any more resources than pan frying would. For just about the same effect, most homes benefit heavily from getting an air fryer, as opposed to setting up a frying station on the stove.
The best air fryers are marketed on their ability to produce an air fried texture to the outside of food that mimics that of deep fried food. While it can definitely get pretty close, there is a specific taste and texture to deep fried food that’s impossible to replicate just with rapid air circulation. It isn’t an extremely distinct difference, but your air fryer food will definitely have a different feeling to it.
If you want to cook for a family, then buy an appliance, which has higher capacity. On the contrary, if you live alone, then the compact device will be okay for you. A healthy body is an extremely important condition for a long life! We can 100% say that eating junk food is an addiction many people just can quit. You can never get enough of it. However, after buying your first air fryer, you will enjoy the cooking process, and your body will feel light in few days. Say “no” to excessive oil and bring home this extremely useful domestic device!
When it comes to frying, the Philips Airfryer XXL knocked it out of the park. During testing, we tasted an awful lot of French fries and the Philips cooked up the fries we couldn’t stop noshing on. They had the combination of crunchiness, tenderness, and potato flavor that make great fries so delectable. Even when we loaded the basket with more than three pounds of frozen fries, they came out crispy. Battered Nashville hot chicken came out with a crackling crust and hamburgers rivaled ones made on the grill.

With three levels of cooking surfaces, the manufacturer claims you can cook an entire family meal with just one device, while keeping an eye on the whole process through its crystal clear, extra-large window. When you’re finished, the Rotating Mesh Basket and other accessories are made of durable stainless steel, so they’re dishwasher safe for fast, easy cleanup.
I have read so many reviews on the air fryer and thought I would give it a try. Since bringing it home, I have made fries (awesome turnout) and chicken (jerk...see pic). I also tried chicken with just seasoning (no breading) and they came out perfect. But I have one con to this contraption.....its too small. In order to make a meal for my family, I had to first cook the chicken, THEN cook the fries. I wish it had the divider like the Power Air Fryer XL. I love this thing and it's so easy for my kids. They can just throw in the food, set it and forget it. This is not great if trying to cook more than one food item, but its great for a single person or if making a quick batch of fries. I gave it 4 stars for the size, but everything else is great. I use it every day. It was a great purchase.

I love love love this airfryer first thing I cooked in it was a pork tenderloin roast 25 minutes it came out crispy on the outside and pink and juicy on the inside also cooked a t-bone steak, tilapia and wings everything comes out great would recommend this for anybody that's trying to cut fat from their diet or just wants something that cooks fast and good and doesn't heat the place up..
My name is Kevin. My life changed when I realized that healthy living is truly a lifelong journey, mainly won by having a well-balanced diet and enjoying adequate exercise. By experimenting in the kitchen and openly sharing my meals, I learned that healthy eating is hardly boring and that by making a few adjustments, I could design a diet that could help me achieve my personal fitness goals. On top of the flipping features, the T-fal ActiFry is also relatively easy to use and well-designed. It offers an on/off button, and a timer, which maxes out at 99 minutes. The simplicity is a double-edged sword for some -- there’s no temperature dial here. Instead the fryer heats to 338 degrees, so you’ll modify how your food is cooked more based on how long you cook it rather than the temperature you cook it at.

"It was called an air fryer for marketing purposes, but it's a little unfortunate, because, first, people think they can only do fried food in it and that it's a gimmicky single use appliance," Ben Mims, author of the new book Air Fry Every Day, says. "Second, people think that things can be thrown into it just like a deep fat fryer and will come out the same. That is a hundred percent not the case."

From the reviews, we noticed many consumers were not using their air fryers on a regular basis. Even though it's an air fryer, it creates grease during the cooking process. People would get a messy surprise when opening their air fryer after not using it for some time. This often happened due to the difficulty of cleaning the areas where grease accumulates.
The air fryer comes with a basket divider, which like the Black and Decker Air Fryer, is used to split the cooking basket in two so you can effectively cook two food items.  This model also comes in a 5.3 qt and and a smaller 3.4 qt capacity.  If you’re cooking for a family (3-4 people) then the larger size is a clear choice, though it is slightly more expensive.
But it can rock out these super-crunchy spanakopita bites! These savory Greek phyllo pastries are filled with spinach and salty cheeses with just a little hit of lemon and heat. Classic spanakopita calls for brushing the phyllo with butter; this version calls for olive oil, which adds even more Greek flavor. Filled with nutrient-rich spinach, these crispy treats make an excellent party dish or appetizer.
Okay, I need to do a product enforcement. My husband & I love fried foods but sadly our arteries don't lol. I have been researching online for a week Hot Air Cookers & today i brought this one at Walmart for $79.00. I have to say i love this as much as my Crockpot. I made Chicken bites, Fries & omg Onion Rings. Everything came out so Crispy and tasted delicious. You have to play with the time & make sure you shake the basket half way through. I cannot wait to try making other things in here.
You don’t want to overcrowd the airfryer so it’s not great for large batch cooking. For meats, I found that you really want to keep everything in 1 layer to get the most golden results. This meant I could only fit in 4 drumsticks or 5 chicken tenders. If I was cooking for a crowd, I honestly would have just baked or broiled in an oven on big sheet pans
Thankfully, all those functions are pretty easy to use -- the SimpleTaste 1400W Multi-Function Air Fryer features dedicated buttons for each mode on the front, along with a display to tell you exactly what temperature the air fryer’s at, in case you want a little more manual control. Speaking of temperature, the fryer can circulate air at between 170 and 400 degrees.

When air-fried either whole or halved lengthwise, okra's characteristic slimy texture is greatly diminished. The outside of each pod gets slightly dehydrated by the hot air of the air fryer, which aids in achieving a crunchy exterior without the excess grease of a deep-fat fryer or the sad, torn strands stuck to the baking sheet from roasting it in an oven.
This air fryer had the best controls of all the ones we tested. We set it up and started making food quickly. It was noticeably easy to use in almost every way. Details like a built-in cord wrap to cut down on clutter and a chime that informs you when the basket is in place and ready to cook are part of what sets it apart from other air fryers. It was hard to tell if the basket was in the right spot in other air fryers.
If you’re OK with an air fryer taking up a lot of space, than the Philips XL comes with our recommendation.  With a price exceeding the $200 mark, it is a fairly expensive piece of equipment but it does cook food to a very high standard and is well built and usable.  Included in this price is a free app and recipe book with more than 150 recipes.  You’ll also have the option of purchasing a grill pan and double layer rack with skewers as additional cooking accessories.

Sure, there’s something nice about the crispiness of a fry right out of the deep fryer. However, if you’re looking to make a chicken, a steak, or an apple pie, you’re not going to turn to a deep fryer. More than likely, you’ll be turning to the conventional oven for those things. With an air fryer, you get the best of both worlds, so you can cook all of those things in one appliance.

You’re best to go with the top 5 air fryers listed, but all of them are fairly strong in what they do.  Overall, it’s up to your individual requirements that will determine what appliance will suit your needs.  We hope you enjoyed our best air fryers reviews for 2018!  Below you will find a buyer’s guide that will point out some aspects of air fryers that you should be aware of.

The T-fal came out on top for having some of the best and most consistent cooking across all of our tests, at half the price of its closest competition. Instead of the usual rapid air-circulation tech that keeps hot air constantly moving around the food, the T-fal uses pulsating heat technology to pump hot air periodically throughout the food, maintaining the temperature without drying things out. We initially thought the pulsating-heat tech was marketing nonsense, but we couldn’t argue with the results.
Our own testing agrees with other users experience.  We first put in frozen chips and set it to what was recommended in the cookbook.  They came out well cooked and crispy.  Next we threw in some chicken drumsticks – 4 in total – and found the top and bottom to be more brown than the sides.  Note that we were testing the larger 5 L model, but the results can be applied to the smaller capacity version as well.

SAVE YOUR MONEY! It does not last long and they don't stand behind their products for any longer than 60 days. I really loved it at first, and my daughters spent their money on me because I asked for the oven for Christmas last year. I asked for other products from this company for Christmas this year but told them not to waste their money. Buyer beware!

In terms of the design, it’s fairly generic and copies the egg shape of other air fryers.  It comes with a digital screen that has 7 pre-set programs for cooking different food items.  You can also adjust the timer and temperature if you wish and it should be noted that when the timer expires, it will automatically shut off the machine so your food won’t keep cooking.  Top this off with a cool to touch handle (this thing goes up to 400 °F!) and we have a safe and user-friendly air fryer.
I went to the store and there they were, same brand and everything. I split up the bag, and started one batch in the air fryer, and another in my oven with the convection off, then made a follow-up batch using the convection setting. The air fryer fries were nicely browned and crisp, but a bit hollowed out, seemingly at the expense of some pleasant creaminess inside. The no-convection oven batch was more leathery on the outside, creamy within, and noticeably less browned. The convection oven version landed squarely between the two.
