Air fryers are healthier, if not necessarily better tasting, than deep frying. Our testers noted the lack of grease across all the finished foods — especially in the chicken strips. It was easily the biggest benefit we found with these products. We knew that air fryers only need a single tablespoon of oil to cook with, but we underestimated how favorable the results would be. Aside from that, though, none of the food really blew us out of the water. As our research had warned us, a lot of the air-fried foods were comparable to oven-cooked foods. The zucchini and broccoli were the major exceptions — they came out so dehydrated, they were nearly inedible.
“My husband bought this for me, and I love my new toy … This is so much better than a regular toaster oven. I made chicken wings using the preprogrammed mode, but reduced the time to 14 minutes. The wings were so juicy and the skin was crispy. I tried Costco frozen egg rolls in the fryer at 400 degrees Fahrenheit [for] 15 minutes, and it was perfect. I’ve used it to bake banana bread and it was good. This is perfect for the two of us because the capacity is just right. I love it.”
UPDATED REVIEW: I liked this airfryer out of the box, but after eight months of regular use, I now know I could have done better. This got the job done, but it's just too small if you want to cook more than single servings. I tried stacking food in layers, which restricted the air flow, so had to cook food in multiple batches - which took forever. Cleaning the basket is an absolute nightmare. The mesh bottom gets filled in with food debris that can't easily be soaked or scrubbed out. After about five months, the plastic exterior of the cooking pan came loose. All that being said, I did like the way this fryer cooked. I decided to go with a 5.8 quart airfryer from another manufacturer (Simple Living) and found myself much more satisfied. Despite the Philips claim that the "starfish" at the bottom of the pan on this fryer makes a difference - I have found it absolutely does not. Not only that, but the other airfryer makes much less noise and has a digital display.
The pre-sets make the job all too easy and the included 14 recipe booklet is great for beginners.  However; the lack of accessories, such as pans or racks makes certain foods tricky to cook, and the grated basket, while great for draining oil, can be a bit of a pain when marinating or using liquid ingredients.  The good news is that it does come in a 3.7QT or 5.8QT variety so can pick which one suits you.
The digital touch screen allows you to set the temperature up to 390 °F which is high enough to fry any food.  There is a also a smart pre-set button to save your cooking settings for when you want to cook the same dish again.  When it’s time to clean, a dish washing safe detachable basket and drawer ensures the components that gets most dirty is also the easiest to clean.  However; we did find the mesh basket to be a bit bothersome to clean as food and residue can get caught between the grates.

This unit is also easy to use. The controls are digital and intuitive. Its cooking compartment is on a track so the basket doesn’t have to click into place, which was a surprisingly difficult task on some of the machines. With the Airfryer XL, you just slide the compartment out on its track and lift the basket out. Most units recommend shaking the basket mid-cycle to rotate food for more even results. That process was easier on this machine than the others, because of the track.
Most importantly, it WORKS. Are air fryer fries or chicken tenders identically to their oil-saturated brethren? No. They’re quite as crunchy and certain don’t have that gross but satisfying pop of grease. But they are noticeably crunchier and crispier than anything I’ve ever made in an oven. The air fryer also manages to texturize the outside of the food, while keeping the inside much more M-O-I-S-T than any other cooking method.
Traditional meat-filled empanadas can be a double-whammy of fat and calories due to ground beef and a trip to the deep fryer. This air fryer twist on the traditional handheld snack is even healthier thanks to the addition of mushrooms, which lighten the filling while keeping it nice and moist. Packs these air fryer empanadas for a tailgate, or serve them over greens for a hearty supper. 
Piece of trash. I was so excited to buy this oven, thinking it would be healthier, convenient & faster way to feed our family. The oven on tv isn’t the same version, so we upgraded. Food looked so delicious on tv wrong wrong! I used the rotisserie for a whole chicken but can only have a chicken weighing 4 lbs. To return it you must insure & sent usps or ups $105 later we sent it back. What a rip-off.
Hi Jennifer! Great recipe and I’m anxious to try it! I have two air fryers and plan to get a third one. The first one I’m giving my sister to see how she likes air frying even though I still love it. We use them ALL the time and I think once you really get into it you will be saying it is “better” than deep fat frying not to mention the Health benefits .
I received my Air Fryer Oven Elite and found I was missing the basket handle and the air fryer diffuser. I called customer service. The guy said I would have to return it at my expense. I called again. The guy said they would ship the handle but the air diffuser was optional, and I would have to purchase it separately. I asked how much it cost. He told me it was out of stock and had no idea when it would be available, no price quoted. All I want is what was promised me when I ordered. For $199.00 it should have everything. I hate companies that show one thing and then they don’t deliver the goods. Shame on you Tristar Products. How about sending me all the missing parts?
Meanwhile, separate dough into 5 biscuits; separate each biscuit into 2 layers. Press each into 4-inch round. Spoon 1 heaping tablespoonful egg mixture onto center of each round. Top with one piece of the cheese. Gently fold edges up and over filling; pinch to seal. In small bowl, beat remaining egg and water. Brush biscuits on all sides with egg wash.
And, don’t let it sit there dirty for a days. “Not cleaning is a big mistake. Just about every recipe I've ever made leaves some debris or crumbs behind. If those food particles stay in the unit they will burn quickly the next time you fire up the machine,” she says. This can not only smoke and smell but also ruin whatever new dish you’re cooking up.
The “fryer” baskets on the models we tested have a nonstick coating. As we’ve learned from researching and testing nonstick skillets, the coating will eventually deteriorate with regular use and exposure to high heat. Additionally, our testers found each air fryer’s perforated basket and tray to be far more difficult to clean than the single sheet pan we used in the oven or toaster oven.
You can do this by reading the illustration on the front of the Airfryer, flipping through the recipe booklet included with the Philips Airfryer, or simply testing out a bunch of times yourself. Pro tip: Start your timer at 5 minutes at 200°C, and just add or subtract minutes or degrees from there. That's basically how I figured out the optimal frying times of all my foods.
“Honestly, I had my doubts. I kept seeing it on TV and decided, Why not, I could always return it. But to my surprise, I can’t imagine life without it! I didn’t expect these results at all! The very first thing I made with them were Buffalo chicken wings. They were so good. Crispy skin, perfectly cooked and much, much healthier than fried wings. I then tried fries, homemade fried chicken, tater tots, spring rolls, bacon, potato chips. The options are endless — and they all turned out perfectly. I even made fried mac-and-cheese bites with some leftover mac and cheese I had. Rolled in flour, then egg and some panko, and they were divine! This is by far one of the best purchases I have ever made.”
In 10-inch nonstick skillet, heat oil over medium-high heat. Cook sausage in oil 2 to 5 minutes, stirring occasionally to crumble, until no longer pink; using slotted spoon, transfer to medium bowl. Reduce heat to medium. Add beaten eggs, salt and pepper to drippings in skillet; cook until eggs are thickened but still moist, stirring frequently. Stir eggs into sausage in bowl. Cool 5 minutes.
“I can’t believe how convenient this appliance is to use. I just pull out the basket, throw in some food, then set the temperature and timer according to the directions printed on the top of the unit. As long as I remember to shake the basket halfway through the cooking time, I get consistently great results. French fries don’t have that super-crispy fried taste, but they’re pretty darn good. We get the Ore-Ida Simply Olive Oil and Sea Salt fries, and they come out with a taste and texture very similar to what you’d get at Wendy’s. But these have got to be much healthier, as you’re adding no fat in the cooking process! … My teen is already asking if he can take one with him to college!”

This is so handy! Easy way to eat healthy without heating up a giant oven. I cut up a head of cauliflower and used a T of butter/or margarine with garlic powder/ onion powder and smoked paprika stir caul around in that, then sprinkle with italian bread crumbs and air fry. Put it in the preheated air fryer for 10-12 minutes, at 350, it was excellent. I cooked some saucy things in there, and the sauce drips to the bottom, but does not smoke and burn. VERY easy clean up. Made some homemade bean burgers, came out great in there. Also done a tone of fries, they come out great and I piled it full. Not heating up the whole oven for these items will be great in the summer when the air conditioning is on.
Although it’s a little smaller in size and capacity, the Power Air Fryer XL can cook and crisp about one pound of food at once. It has digital controls with preset programs. We found it somewhat generic in appearance and the basket doesn’t glide out as smoothly as on some. But on the positive side, it cleans up in the dishwasher, comes with a recipe booklet, and won’t set you back a bundle.

Cooking oils break down over time. Animal-based shortenings have very limited shelf life, as they do not react well with the outside air and become rancid. Vegetable oils also begin to separate into water and fat after several deep frying sessions. Replacing these cooking oils, especially in the quantities required for larger deep fryers, can become expensive and time-consuming.
