I went to Walmart and bought a beautiful Oster Digital Convection Countertop Oven for $99. I can bake biscuits and "air fry" my fries in it if I must "air fry" them!
Ultimately, I was really pleased with the results from the air fryer. The chicken was beautifully browned, with crispy edges, but still very moist inside. And it was ready for the table before the oven batch (which took around 35 to 40 minutes). When I pulled the chicken from the oven, it was a little less crispy, but was still quite moist on the inside. I tossed both of the batches in a sweet peach barbecue sauce to finish. For me, the takeaway pro of the air fryer in this round of “frying” was that it technically cooked the chicken faster; the big con is that I could only fit half the amount of chicken as compared to using the oven.
Considering a price tag of less than $100 we can definitely see a couple of trade-offs as a result of keeping the price as low as possible. There is no digital display, making everything a tad bit harder and less accurate to use. Expectantly, the design comes with the classic issue of accidentally setting the timer too long and not being able to dial it back.

We wanted to see if our finalists could cook our favorite fried foods: french fries (fresh and frozen), chicken strips, and healthier options like zucchini and broccoli. The T-fal was the only model we tested that stayed room-temperature across the entire surface, which helps keep children’s curious hands safe. It also requires two steps to open: Instead of simply pulling the handle to access the cooking bowl, we had to push and lift the handle and then press another side button to release the top. It wasn’t a complex maneuver, but it gave us a little more peace of mind when thinking about young ones trying to get to their fries early.
